On Saturday, May 30th, 2026, I joined Narcosis Dive Company for a day underwater that reminded me why I keep chasing these moments.
The ocean was calm on the ride out, that quiet stretch of time where you check your gear, run through your mental checklist, and let the noise of everyday life fade into the background. By the time we rolled off the boat, the only thing that mattered was my breathing and the blue opening up below.
Not long into the dive, the water around us seemed to thicken with presence. Out of the shadows, a massive goliath grouper appeared. It moved slowly, like it owned the reef—and honestly, it did. Hanging there in the water column next to something that size is humbling. You feel small in the best possible way.
As we continued along the reef, sea turtles started to appear one by one. A few glided past us with that effortless, slow-motion grace that always makes me feel like I’m rushing through life on land. They didn’t seem bothered by us at all—just sharing the same space, same moment.
Toward the end of the dive, a big nurse shark came into view, cruising along the bottom. No drama, no rush, just a quiet patrol of its territory. It’s the kind of sighting that doesn’t spike your adrenaline as much as it settles you. You’re reminded that you’re a visitor down here, passing through someone else’s home.
By the time we surfaced, I felt that familiar mix of gratitude and calm. Another day logged, another set of memories I don’t want to lose to time. This is why I document these trips—to remember the details, to share the feeling of being out there, and to hopefully nudge someone else to get outside their comfort zone and into the water.
Days like this are why I keep saying it: collect moments, not things.
